The Rundown: At a meeting of world leaders, the delegation from Krakoa will show their peers what the new future of human/mutant relations will look like. Whether they want it or not.

The delegation from Krakoa has been invited to a meeting in Switzerland of the World Economic Forum with representatives from nations like Wakanda, China, the US and others. IN attendance from the new mutant nation are Magneto, Apocalypse and Charles Xavier flanked by their bodyguards Cyclops and Gorgon.

As the delegates wine and dine the mutants and attempt to learn more about the intentions of Krakoa and their new place in the world as an independent state, Xavier informs Scott that there are two groups of mercenaries preparing to strike. While Cyclops and Gorgon take care of the impending threat, the delegates get a lesson in the new reality of human/mutant relations and the proclamation that further aggression against mutants will be met with a response.

The Story: Hickman’s subtlety in this issue is perfect. The juxtaposition between the political posturing and the action is well balanced and continues Hickman’s new paradigm for the characters which plays out in ways that leave the audience both satisfied and hungry for more. There is a brilliance to the unknown nature of this storyline and the fact that nothing can be predicted makes every revelation and moment a welcome surprise that keeps me invested.

The Art: Leinil Francis Yu brilliantly complements the contrasting character moments with art that is filled with detail. The scenes in the delegate chamber are subtle and beautiful as they focus on the people in the room along with shots of the food being served. The action is handled perfectly as well as the pace of the story switches between the brutal fights and the political theater.
