The Rundown: Wynd’s past is revealed as a new adventure begins.

The story of how baby Wynd was found is revealed as Molly and her husband discover the boy and, despite some objections, agree to take the boy home. Unbeknownst to the couple, they are being watched. Years later, there is turmoil in the kingdom as the king deals with his missing son and what hi absence might have unleashed. Things get more tense when the gates are opened and mysterious ships enter the city.

A delegation from the Vampyrium arrives in the city to greet the king and his court. The tension between the two sides is only alleviated by the knowledge that they share a common cause. A cause that will reveal more secrets and forge a dangerous alliance between the pair. At the same time, Wynd is getting used to not only his newfound freedom, but his emerging powers. As the party prepares to meet with Yorick’s cousin and discuss their next moves, a threat beneath the waves prepares to attack.

The Story: James Tynion IV begins this new arc for the characters with drama, tension and humor. It was a fun story filled with great character moments that were enhanced by great writing and dialogue. This new arc promises more adventure and higher stakes for Wynd and his companions and I loved the plotting of the issue and how it expanded Wynd’s story as well as introducing a new and dangerous threat.

The Art: Michael Dialynas’ art is fantastic. The characters look great and there is a beautiful level of detail in the panels. The contrast between the closed nature of Pipetown and the openness of the sea was brilliantly done.
