The Rundown: Diana will find herself face to face with an old enemy.
Diana is moving into a new apartment and meets her new neighbor. The two become friends and Diana takes her new neighbor shopping to pick out furniture. When a woman seemingly goes crazy and takes her infant son on a harrowing car ride straight towards a semi, Diana leaps into action to stop her.
Diana is then called in to help on a mission at a prison where the inmates have taken over. With no communication and unknown powered prisoners inside, Diana is dispatched to go in alone to stop them. When she arrives, she discovers the prisoners are all under the control of a single prisoner. One with a personal connection to Wonder Woman.
The Story: Mariko Tamaki does a great job of starting the story with another change in Diana’s life and expertly pivoting it to a ghost from her past. The way the character is introduced is subtle and engaging. The way the story is plotted kept me interested in what twists it would take and satisfied with how the story came out. Well done storytelling and a premise that makes me interested in seeing where the story goes next.
The Art: Mikel Janin adds some beautiful visuals to this issue. From the beautifully detailed splash pages to the panel progression, this issue is stunning. One of the best parts is the final sequence and how it leads to the surprise reveal at the end.
