Ares has lured the leader of Durovnia to a secret meeting under the guise of peace. He wasn’t counting on Wonder Woman, Steve and Aphrodite tagging along. The resulting battle pits Diana against a god convinced that his brutal ideas of justice will succeed where others have failed.

Diana must stop the rampaging god before he tilts the scales in a way that causes more destruction. As Diana takes on the god one on one, it’s up to Aphrodite to help turn the tide of the fight with words that still the god as Diana teaches him what her weapons really do.

One of the best parts of this finale is the rising tension throughout. The resolution of this story is unpredictable and Wilson does a great job of keeping the reader guessing as the story unfolds. It’s a layered and interesting conclusion that isn’t going to please everyone involved and that works. It shows the reader that there are no absolutes or easy answers. It also serves to add another dramatic slant to the mystery of the gods and their presence on Earth. A satisfying end to this particular story that hints at some interesting conflicts to come for Diana.

I truly enjoyed Xermanico’s art in this issue. Everything was done with stunning details and a fluid grace of movement in the action and fight scenes. A truly enjoyable visual experience.
