Ares will learn the cost of war.

Diana finds herself in pitched battle with the God of War and his wrath might be too much for Wonder Woman to take. She finally musters enough strength to take down the raging god and force him to take a step back and assess what he’s doing and what his actual mission is.

In a rare moment of humanity, Ares finds out that there is a human cost to his war that he never thought about. It’s an interesting moment, but a little much considering that this is Ares. I’m sure he’s run across this situation before and his sudden emotional reaction to it seems strange without context.

Diana putting herself in the middle of the conflict has unforeseen complications for Etta’s mission in the region as well as making her a target for both sides. Her choice to fight is made more difficult when Ares decides to abandon the conflict that he created and will not return to end it.

Meanwhile, Steve Trevor and the menagerie guarding him take him to another location. One that introduces another complication in both Steve and Diana’s lives and another wayward god on the battlefield.

Wilson does a fine job of continuing this story and I enjoyed that there is another wrinkle added in the form of another god, but the overall story felt flat at too many moments. It’s well paced and adds some interesting elements with Ares, but nothing really stood out from a story perspective.

Cary Nord’s art is well done and there are some really good action panels at work between Diana and Ares.
