Diana and her team have decided to take one of the rarest creatures on the planet and transport it to one of the most dangerous places on that planet. As she and the rest of Justice League Dark make their way to the island of Circe, Hecate activates another woman imbued with her power, Manitou Dawn. The activation of the former hero brings Deadman into the story and he has to get to the team.

Diana and the team confront Circe, who is uncharacteristically warm with them and invites them into her home to tell Diana about the brand she wears and what Hecate really wants. It’s a harrowing tale that makes her just as dangerous and the other forces that are looking to destroy magic on the Earth and when Boston Brand appears, he tells them that the assault has already begun.

The Witching Hour storyline continues to be really engrossing and the fact that the story is so dense, but accessible is thanks to James Tynion IV. His ability to wrangle this storyline across multiple titles and keep it interesting enough for the reader to want to follow it, is one of the reasons why this story continues to evolve in interesting ways. I continue to be impressed with this take on the magical world of the Justice League and Diana’s place in this story continues to unfold in interesting ways. It also helps that she is clashing with Zatanna because that adds an additional dimension to the team’s dynamics.

Lupacchino’s art in this issue is beautiful. I loved all of the panels that showcased the powers of these characters, especially Circe, Manitou Dawn and ultimately Diana at the end. There is great detail in the characters and the background art is great. I really want to see where this story goes next.
