The Haunting of Hill House has been a huge success for the streaming service Netflix and while there hasn’t been an official announcement of a second season of the series, director Mike Flanagan has offered has stated that the story of the Crain family is concluded.

With that in mind, the question becomes; What would a possible second season of The Haunting of Hill House look like?

The Haunting of Hill House

One of the best parts of the first season was the assortment of hidden ghosts located throughout Hill House. While each of those ghosts and the circumstances that brought them to Hill House is an interesting story in itself, the second season would be well served by telling the tragic story of the last Hills who lived in the house.

Poppy and William Hill’s story is one that mirrors the Crain’s. Unfortunately, their story ends more tragically. So who are the Hills of Hill House?

Poppy Hill

According to Hazel Hill, Poppy was a dangerous liar. Poppy met her soon to be husband William Hill when they were both committed to an asylum. Details of their courtship are as yet unknown, but she is considered to be crazy before coming to live at Hill House. After marrying William and moving into the house, she has three children. All three met their end in the house and it is heavily implied that Poppy is the one who killed them. The question is; Did Poppy kill them on her own, or was she prompted to by another ghost in the house?

Either way, her descent into madness could be a huge dramatic plot point for the second season.

William Hill

BowlerMan (2)

Also known as The Bowler Hat ghost, William Hill spent time in an asylum. This means that there is already a history of mental illness with him before he meets and falls for Poppy. After marrying her and bringing her into his home, William continues to go insane. Guilt seems to be his main issue and he is driven insane both from his guilt over the death of his children, but also from an apparent infidelity that many believe has a direct connection to the Dudley family.

The circumstances that cause him to brick himself into the walls of Hill House are another plot point worth exploring.

Hazel Hill

Hazel is William’s sister and seemingly one of the only ghosts in the house who tries to tell Olivia Crain the truth. It’s never made clear what happens to her in the house during the circumstances that lead to the tragedy of William and Poppy Hill. Hazel dies in the house and her history with the house seems to extend far beyond the deaths of her brother and sister-in-law.
