The strike teams sent through the Black Bifrost have made it to their destinations and are implementing the next part of Freyja’s plan; locate and enlist allies from the armies of the fallen realms. Freyja has taken control of the Black Bifrost and is defending it against the oncoming forces of Malekith while the Dark Elf continues his war on Midgard.

With the strike teams missions complete and Thor rescued, the teams return to Avengers Mountain to regroup, but Odin has other ideas when he finds out his wife is fighting alone against an army of Dark Elves. Knowing that Malekith will never stop the war, Freyja fights on but she’s about to get some help from Tony Stark and Screwbeard. The pair have been working on something special and when Malekith returns to investigate why his bifrost is not working, he discovers both Freyja and an armored Odin waiting for him and his forces.

Malekith still believes victory to be in his grasp, but there is a certain god of thunder who has other ideas.

Jason Aaron has ramped up the action and drama in this issue. He’s done some great things with Freyja as a character and showcasing her capability leads to a better appreciation of the character. There is a lot going on in this issue, but the storytelling is tight and no moment feels like it’s being wasted. The dialogue is dynamic and I love how dynamic and commanding both Freyja and Odin are in this issue. Their moments together are fun as well. There is a great pace to this issue and everything in it leads to an awesome hero moment for one character and the promise of something epic to come in the next issue.

Russell Dauterman’s art is beautiful, brutal and filled with detailed action. All of the action leaps off the page.
