With three episodes of WandaVision already released, the story has taken some weird, wonderful and unexpected turns. One of those turns has a connection to the Marvel Comics that influenced this series and that is the twin sons of Wanda Maximoff and Vision.

In the third episode of WandaVision, Wanda had to deal with a comically accelerated pregnancy that, in the end, produced twin boys Tommy and Billy. So who are Wanda and Vision’s twins and what could their presence mean for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Created by Steve Englehart and Richard Howell in 1986, Thomas and William Maximoff are the magically created sons of Wanda Maximoff and Vision. The twins were created using life essence from the demon Mephisto in order to give them souls. Unfortunately, the twins met their end when the illusion of their births was revealed in Avengers West Coast Vol 2 #52 in 1989.

The twins wouldn’t return for another decade when they were reintroduced as Young Avengers Thomas Shepherd and Billy Kaplan aka Speed and Wiccan. Billy joined the Young Avengers after the original team disbanded and took the name Wiccan. During a mission to rescue his teammate and future husband Hulkling, Billy rescued Tommy and the team marveled at their resemblance to each other. During the Children’s Crusade it was confirmed that Kaplan and Shepherd are the reincarnated sons of Wanda and Vision after rescuing their mother from Doctor Doom.

With Tommy and Billy now introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the question becomes whether they will meet the same fate as their comic book counterparts. Will Wanda lose them when she is finally broken out of her delusion? Will they have a similar reincarnation with Marvel Studios bringing younger heroes into the universe including Kate Bishop, Riri Williams and Kamala Khan? Could the introduction of these characters be a step towards a new Young Avengers team?
