Kenneth Johnson created the television mini-series V which aired on NBC in 1983. It was followed by another mini-series titled V: The Final Battle and a short-lived series. The original mini-series followed the first contact between humanity and an alien species when the human looking “Visitors” descend on the planet in giant ships over every major city on Earth. In exchange for minerals and chemicals needed to save their world, they offer humanity advanced technology to combat disease and famine. It turns out that the aliens are reptilian in nature and they are taking all of the natural resources of the planet including harvesting humans for food. Humanity mounts a resistance against the aliens and their human collaborators in order to achieve victory.

V: The Movie will be written and directed by original series creator Kenneth Johnson through Desilu studios. The movie will be produced by John Hermansen and Barry Opper. According to Johnson; “V will be the first cinematic trilogy which will tell the full epic tale in the manner I envisioned.” Johnson broke with NBC after V: The Final Battle due to creative differences with the network and has not been involved with the property since, including the rebooted television series that ran from 2009-2011 starring Morena Baccarin, Elizabeth Mitchell and Morris Chestnut.
