The Rundown: With a plague ravaging the globe, a handpicked group will travel to an unknown and dangerous country to find a possible cure, America.

The United States has been walled off for years and there has been no news about the country to the rest of the world. When a mystery plague ravages country after country, a message from the US speaks of a possible cure. A team of scientists and mercenaries is dispatched to enter the walled off country to find the scientist who reached out.

What they find is both fantastic and disturbing.

The Story: Snyder and Soule have crafted a first issue that is full of new ideas, dynamic and engaging characters and a concepts that challenge the reader to think of the United States in a new way. This is a huge story story in terms of theme and concept and the writers do an amazing job of weaving together elements of danger and wonder as the characters behold and try to survive an America filled with strange and fascinating characters. There is so much in this first issue to capture the imagination and I can’t wait to see how deep the writers dive into the world they’ve created.

The Art: Camuncoli and Orlandini step up to the plate and knock one out of the park with the visuals in this issue. Not only are the characters drawn beautifully, but the vistas, creatures and vehicles are rendered in fantastic detail. I have a feeling the art is only going to get more intense as the series progresses.
