Letters by Cory Petit

The Rundown: The Parkers go to dinner with friends to discuss the future.

Gwen and Harry have rented out a restaurant and replaced the staff in order to have a conversation with the Parkers to discuss everything that is happening and to reveal everything that they can. At the same time, Ben is babysitting the kids and trying to find a way to get Richard to talk about his recent exploits in the suit.

As the couples sit down to a meal, the tension in the room becomes palpable as Mary Jane wants to know everything that could possibly affect her family and specifically, her children. Gwen’s answers don’t instill a lot of confidence and they lead to a tense confrontation between the two women as Richard finally tells his uncle how he feels about Felicia.

The Story: Hickman crafts a engaging and tense story in this issue. It takes the characters in some unique and unexpected directions while showcasing the mature storytelling that I enjoy from this series. Mary Jane is definitely the emotional highlight of this issue and I continue to love this version of the character and how she strives to keep the other characters grounded and honest in their actions and motivations.

The Art: Messina delivers some great art throughout the issue. I love the visual style and how the imagery emphasizes the characters and their emotions.
