Twenty five years ago, Andy Bhang and his team were innovators in the world of robotics and they took their work to the International Robot Soccer Championship only to be upstaged by a young Tony Stark and his robots that were decades ahead in adaptability and performance. Back in the present, Andy Bhang is still working in robotics out of his garage when he is visited by Tony Stark who proceeds to tell him that he’s purchased his company and is bringing him to Tony’s newest facility, Stark Unlimited.

It’s all a blur to Andy as he’s whisked off to the facility and introduced to its staff. It’s a great moment that amplifies the kind of personality that we’re used to from Tony Stark as well as paced in a way that is just as jarring to the reader as it is to Bhang. Everything happens really fast and that speed works for this character and the format of this particular story. You can see how Bhang is overwhelmed with everything he’s experiencing and it’s fun to see these events through his eyes and he tries to make sense of everything happening around him and to him.

Andy isn’t going to have that much time to process what’s going on because an alert calls them to Stark’s operations center where they witness Fin Fang Foom emerge from the depths and make his way towards the city. We get a chance to see Rhodey in this issue and his role as Stark liaison. There are a lot of classic moments in this first issue that harken back to the history of Iron Man and they work in this new story. One of the themes of this issue is how Tony overcomes a threat with collaboration and I hope that theme gets explored more in the series. I also find myself interested in whoever is stealing tech from Stark and how that story will play out.

This was a fun first issue from start to finish. After reading it more than once, I can’t really find anything that I didn’t like from the characters to the pacing to the art, all of it worked. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.
