The Who Of You
Harry Pine is a struggling actor who only thinks about his individual needs until a moment of desperation unlocks the power to be anyone.
After failing another audition, Harry returns to the apartment he shares with his long suffering girlfriend just in time for the electricity to be turned off. Failing to pay the bill, Harry promises that he will get the money and the power turned back on. Not knowing how to get the funds they need, Harry decides to take the desperate step of robbing a local bank. When he’s surprised by the actions of the guard on duty, Harry’s consciousness is transferred into the body of the bank clerk he terrorized.
While Harry’s body is in police custody, his mind swaps from person to person in a desperate attempt to get home with the money and reconcile with his girlfriend. Dogging his every step is a police detective who is starting to realize that the man he has in custody is constantly changing personalities.
There is a lot to like about this episode. It definitely has the feel of the classic series updated for today and Ethan Embry shines in the role of Harry. Embry has to convincingly portray a myriad of different people and does so brilliantly. There is a cameo from Billy Porter in the episode that was well done, but should have been longer. Porter fills the screen with charisma and charm and you wanted more of that as the episode continued.
Daniel Sunjata’s Detective Reece got the short end character wise. There didn’t seem to be much of anything of substance to him and even the revelation about his secret was anticlimactic. He just seemed to be there most of the time and never really actively affected the scenes he was in. The twist at the end of the episode was satisfying, but predictable. The performances from Ethan Embry and Billy Porter are what make this episode memorable.
