The Rundown: Sir Hugh begins to doubt his mission, but Death will be satisfied either way.

After making a pact with Death to kill a man who is eluding it, Sir Hugh and his square Crispin take to the road in an attempt to save the life of Hugh’s son. At the same time, rival Sir Maurice continues to keep a young man hostage in his home as he uses him to perform magic to keep him safe. Sir Hugh finds more death along the roads as he moves from town to town.
After finding a town where the locals have burned two women suspected of being witches, Sir Hugh finds out more about the man he is meant to kill. Information that puts his mission in doubt when he meets a local priest who offers him advice. Unfortunately, Hugh’s waning faith and doubts about his mission will attract death back to him and the creature promises to kill the knight’s son for breaking his pact.
The Story: Milligan delivers a dark, suspenseful story throughout this issue. I love the dark, moody environment of the story and the intense moments of horror throughout. I like the crisis of faith the character is dealing with among the supernatural elements of his story and I enjoy the contrast between his quest and the machinations of Maurice. I really want to see what happens when these two characters finally meet again.
The Art: Rodrigues delivers fantastic art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of the series and the imagery of the horrors all around the characters. I felt immersed in this world through the imagery.
