The Rundown: Sam is determined to get answers and finds nothing but more questions.
Sam takes over the story and recounts his past with Walter and how his old friend had a way of manipulating the people in his life for their own benefit. Noticing the similarities between then and now, Sam is determined to find a way to escape, but no one else seems interested in working with him.
Turning his back on the others, including Arturo, Sam sets out to map the area and get some answers about where they are and what is happening to the rest of the world. As he takes notes and finds new areas to explore, he is unaware that he is being watched.
The Story: James Tynion IV continues to craft a gripping and engaging character study in this issue. Having the characters start the story with their own memories of Walter is a great way of giving the character more context and more mystery. Sam is becoming one of the more well rounded and interesting characters in the series and his journey gives some great context to Walter’s relationship with his friends and his motivations. There is a lot of tension throughout this issue and that tension goes a long way towards keeping the reader invested in the mystery of the house, Walter and the world outside.
The Art: Alvaro Martinez Bueno delivers some beautiful imagery throughout this issue. There are some great character moments on every page and the details are brilliant. What I really loved was the subtlety of some of the moments, especially the ones that showcased that Sam was not alone.
