The Rundown: When the God of Death is sent to Earth in human form, she goes on a mission to change the course of history.

The lives of three women intersect in this issue. As Mrs. Shah travels to the hospital in labor, Laila Starr attends a party, and Death has an important meeting. When the Purveyor of Goodness fires Death, he decides to send her to Earth to experience mortal life. Death takes on her human form soon after a tragedy involving Laila Starr occurs. Then, Death must decide whether to exact revenge on a close relative of Mrs. Shah’s, The Creator of Immortality.

The Story: Ram V has created a wild and entertaining narrative that depicts religious figures in a surprisingly human manner. Death’s journey is relatable, as are the choices she makes. I like the way the story mixes in heavy narration along with the dialogue. It gives the story and its characters more nuanced perspective. I am invested in Death’s journey and can’t wait to see more of her experiences.

The Art: Andrade’s traditional drawing style is combined with the colorful panels in a style reminiscent of watercolors. The mainly blue and purple tones are entrancing. And I felt completely in tune with the changing moods of the story.
