The latest episode of The Mandalorian gave fans some really big story points going forward as well as the return of a fan favorite character from the original trilogy.

One of the biggest things the episode did was open the door for more returns and more surprises. In the episode titled “The Tragedy”, Din and Grogu finally make it to Tython after being sent their by Ahsoka Tano to see if Grogu will follow the path of the Jedi. After setting the child down on the seeing stone, the arrival of both Boba Fett and Imperial remnants led by Moff Gideon turn the situation more intense.

Grogu does reach out with the Force and Mando is unable to remove him from the stone to escape. At the end of the episode, Grogu has tapped into his powers, but the bigger question is; Who heard Grogu’s call and will that person come to his aid? Here are a few possible candidates for Jedi that could come to train Grogu.

Luke Skywalker

With the Mandalorian series taking place after the fall of the Galactic Empire in Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker would be a likely candidate for answering Grogu’s call. It’s established in The Force Awakens that Luke attempted to rebuild the Jedi order in the thirty years between ROTJ and TFA so hearing the call of a force-sensitive child would be something Skywalker would want to investigate.

Fans are already petitioning and campaigning for actor Sebastian Stan to play the young Luke and Stan is already part of the Disney umbrella with his role as Winter Soldier for Marvel Studios. It wouldn’t be a stretch to see the Luke Skywalker come searching for a potential Padawan. It is also entirely conceivable that actor Mark Hamill could reprise the role himself utilizing the de-aging technology that has become so prevalent in movies like The Irishman or even The Last Jedi which had a scene involving young Luke and Leia.

Quinlan Vos

Quinlan Vos has a varied and somewhat troubled history with the Jedi order. Not the traditional Jedi in both personality and purpose, Vos spent much of his time in the order acting as an undercover agent in the criminal underworld. Gifted with the ability to see others’ memories by touching objects of theirs, Vos became an expert tracker. The Jedi attempted to use Vos to assassinate Count Dooku, but this deviation from their beliefs caused Vos to turn to the Dark Side for a time before finding redemption and a return to the light.

With Vos’ fate during Order 66 unknown, it is entirely possible that he could have survived and gone underground. A skill he mastered over the years. Grogu’s call might bring the former Jedi out of hiding and his personality might be the perfect fit for both Mando and Grogu as they all like to exist outside the law and stay under the radar.

Cal Kestis

This one is a bit of a longshot as Cal is a video game character and not directly in the wheelhouses of either Jon Favreau or Dave Filoni. The former Padawan who becomes a rebel after the rise of the Empire, Cal is on a quest to rebuild the Jedi order as well and his mission at the end of the game to protect the names of force sensitive children could bring him into the path of Grogu. It’s even possible that the two might remember each other as younglings in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

One thing working in this theories favor is that the character is modeled after and voiced by actor Cameron Monaghan. With his breakout roles in both Gotham and Shameless, Monaghan is a recognizable face. Also, with both Gotham and Shameless ending, he could be looking for a new series to join.

Ezra Bridger

Definitely another fan favorite character and one co-created by Dave Filoni, Ezra Bridger is another character who has a unique and varied history with both the Empire and the Force. The former Padawan and Jedi was born and raised in the Outer Rim Territories on Lothal. After his parents were taken by the Empire, Ezra became an orphan and subsequently joined the crew of the Ghost where he trained under Order 66 surviving Jedi Kana Jarrus.

Ezra’s presence would fall in line with the side stories going on this season. Bo Katan’s quest for the Dark Saber could explain why she knew Ahsoka was on Corvus. At the end of Rebels, Ahsoka and Sabine Wren go on the hunt for Thrawn and Ezra. Perhaps Bo Katan went to Sabine for information about Gideon and where he might have taken the device. It might also explain how Ahsoka made her way to Corvus in the first place. I would hazard a guess that she traveled there with Sabine and there is the possibility that their search for Ezra could converge with Ezra’s reaching out to Grogu.

Mace Windu

Another fan theory that could have some traction is the possible return of Jedi Master Mace Windu. One of the most powerful Jedi on the Council, Windu was last scene being thrown from the Chancellor’s window after being betrayed by Anakin. He’s never seen again or mentioned, but characters coming back from the dead is definitely not unheard of in Star Wars. Not only would Windu be powerful enough to sense the call of Grogu, but resurrection and return would be an interesting story to tell.

Samuel L Jackson loves Star Wars and has a relationship with both Disney and Jon Favreau. A relationship will include an upcoming Nick Fury series on Disney Plus so he could definitely pop in for a cameo on the Mandalorian and his appearance could solve the mystery of what happened to Mace Windu after his confrontation with Anakin.

The Mandalorian is gearing up for what will be an epic season finale and with Grogu putting out the call for a Jedi, he is taking his first steps into a larger world. But who will answer that call?

I want to know what you think. Let me know who you think will come looking for Grogu and why in the comments below.
