The Rundown: With Hulk still on the loose, Gamma Flight has a reckoning and McGee learns a devastating truth.

Hulk has broken free from Alpha Flight station is loose on Earth. Gyrich brings the team in to berate them for their failure and threatens them, especially Absorbing Man. In a surprising twist, Samson steps forward to try to alleviate some of the tension in the room, but Gyrich pushes the man far enough for him to threaten something deadly to the entire station.

At the same time, McGee is confronted by her boss about the performance of the paper and a change to her role as an investigative reporter. After making a personal decision, she returns home to find that she is not alone and the person in her apartment has some devastating news about what she is becoming after her exposure to the Hulk. In the below, Banner’s suffering continues as the Leader tries to understand why he doesn’t have access to the power he’s trying to attain. When he’s confronted by the spirit of someone close to Bruce, Leader will discover that he doesn’t have the level of control that he thinks.

The Story: Al Ewing delivers a powerful story in this issue even without Hulk being a factor. Gyrich is presented as a convincing threat and the juxtaposition of his meeting with the team and McGee’s meeting at the paper is well done. The issue is filled with dramatic tension and the plot has a dark ominous feel to it even before it gets to the Leader and what is happening to Bruce. I was consistently impressed with where this story was going and how its events unfold to the point where I didn’t want the issue to end.

The Art: All of the artists bring great imagery to the issue. The story is dark and each artist perfectly captures the mood and tone with their art.
