The Rundown: As Bruce fights to free the Devil inside himself, Betty comes to a decision about her place at his side.
In the wake of Xemnu’s fall, Roxxon has declared bankruptcy and the Hulk’s image has gotten a much needed positive boost from the public. As everyone is praising the Hulk for his actions, Bruce is dealing with more inner turmoil as he finds himself unable to free the Devil Hulk, even with the help of his internal Savage Hulk.
With Bruce taking a journey inside his own brain, Joe is in charge until Betty decides she needs to confront her husband about their life at Shadow Base. What comes next is a confrontation they both need and a decision they’ll have to learn to live with as Hulk finds himself a reluctant hero to the public.
The Story: Al Ewing takes the reader into Hulk’s inner journey as well as teasing more hardship and trauma to come for the character. The Betty/Bruce relationship is interesting to see explored and Al Ewing does a masterful job at making it uncomfortable and personal to witness. The story is engaging and events are brewing with the character that keep me coming back to read more.
The Art: Mike Hawthorns does a great job with the art in the issue. There’s not a lot of big action to be had, but Hawthorne manages to add some dramatic visual moments throughout and they all work with the tone of the story.
