Arrow recently ended its run on The CW and there was news that some of the characters would be returning for a spinoff series that was teased in the show’s final season.

Unfortunately, it looks like that series will not be going forward on the network. In a rare and surprising move, The CW has passed on the announced Green Arrow and the Canaries series which would have continued the adventures of the heroes of Star City without Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen.

The series was supposed to star Katherine McNamara’s Mia Smoak/Green Arrow alongside Katie Cassidy’s Laurel Lance and Juliana Harkavy’s Dinah Drake. A backdoor pilot was introduced for the series in Arrow’s final season, but it looks like The CW and Warner Brothers are looking ahead to new projects in the world of DC Comics.

Arrow creator Greg Berlanti is at work on a spinoff of Black Lightning titled Painkiller and director Ava DuVernay has teamed with DC for a new drama series connected to one of their existing properties.
