The CW announced recently that Batwoman would be making her live action appearance on this year’s crossover episode in the Arrowverse. A Batwoman series is also in development for the CW next season so finding the perfect actress to take on the role of Batwoman was essential. Today we got news that The CW has found its Kate Kane.

According to multiple sources, including Deadline, the CW has cast actress Ruby Rose as Kate Kane/Batwoman in the Arrowverse crossover episode. Ruby Rose is a huge get for the network and the series with the actress’ star on the rise in Hollywood in films like XXX: Return of Xander Cage, Joh Wick: Chapter 2 and the recently released thriller The Meg as well as her breakout performance on the Netflix series Orange is the new Black.

Batwoman will be the first LGBTQ lead in a superhero series on television and Rose has been an advocate for the LGBTQ community for years after coming out herself as gender fluid. Caroline Dries is writing the series and the synopsis from Deadline article reads:

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Rose will make her first appearance as Batwoman this December with her series, produced by Greg Berlanti expected to premiere next year.
