The Rundown: The hunt for Doctor Petiot continues but conducting a murder investigation with the Nazis becomes more difficult for the lead detective on the case.

The sorted history of Petiot is chronicled as the Doctor’s past might hold some clue to his present. In the present day, as Detective Victor-Massu interrogates those close to the missing doctor, SS officer Jodkum decides to interrogate the man’s wife with typical Nazi tactics that yield nothing. When Victor-Massu learns of this development, he steps in to talk to the grieving woman. When she continues to defend her husband, Victor-Massu learns more about the missing man. It doesn’t help matter when the man shows up with a letter for the detective before disappearing back into the city.

That night, the Nazis throw a party and Jodkum finds that his position in the city is about to change when news that the Allies are preparing to retake the city prompts a new officer to take over with a solution that will devastate Paris in their wake.

The Story: Stephanie Phillips crafts a story that takes full advantage of the atmosphere of the city and there is a sense of scale and scope in the story as events unfold everywhere. The characters are engaging and the investigation moves at a pace that holds and keeps the interest of the reader. The mystery at the heart of this story continues to be compelling and I love the world this story exists in as well as the dual stories being told. I can’t wait to see where it goes next.

The Art: Dean Kotz delivers some beautiful art in this issue. There are some great visuals throughout and I love the gritty, noir style prevalent across each page.
