The Rundown: The Last Laugh protocol has been released on the city. Bruce knows that he is giving the Batman Who Laughs what he wants, but he also knows that in the short time they have, he is still in control of the protocol. He uses that time to implement what could be his final plan as a Batman in control of his own mind.

The Gordon’s are tasked with stopping the Grim Knight as he fights his way to the control of Last Laugh. Grim Knight exploits Jim’s relationship with his son in a bid to turn the former killer against his father. At the same time, Bruce has drawn BWL to the mansion where he provides the one Bruce Wayne he believes the monster needs to finish his serum. As the two battle for this special Bruce Wayne, BWL reveals that Bruce is wrong about what he’s looking for and that decision could cost him everything, including the city.

The Story: Scott Snyder continues to weave a scary, sublime, masterful tale with this issue. Every twist and turn is engaging. It is impossible to not be impressed with the scope of the story being told, the stakes that are being raised with each issue and the intensity of the characters and how they’re written. Snyder does a great job of deconstructing the character of Batman and giving the reader a new facet of the character to explore. A great issue that ends with an emotional gut punch for the reader.

The Art: Jock continues to knock it out of the park with his beautiful artwork in this issue. The tone of Snyder’s story is perfectly matched with the style Jock brings to the art in this series and this issue especially.
