It’s part three of the Go Down Swinging storyline and Peter Parker has been defeated by Red Goblin and given a choice: give up being Spider-Man or watch everyone Peter loves die. Peter agrees, but he has a plan.

The first part of Peter’s plan gives a nod to Spider-Man: Homecoming as Peter becomes “the man in the chair”. His mission is to coordinate with his friends to protect the people he loves the most. Human Torch is watching MJ at Stark Tower, Miles is keeping an eye on Aunt May and Silk is watching over the Daily Bugle. He also enlists some outside help because the list of people Norman would go after is longer than just people Peter cares for and they need help too. It’s nice seeing Peter coordinating like this. It shows the growth of the character as someone who is a real hero at heart and that the people around him are his responsibility.

I love the immediacy of this issue. Everything in it has a heightened sense of tension as the threat of Norman Osborn is felt by everyone. There’s a reason his menace is so profound and Slott does a great job of bringing that menace out and amplifying it when Norman goes after Liz and Harry. The fight between Spidey’s team and Red Goblin is done well, especially visually. Immonen has created a horrific look for Red Goblin and he skillfully makes the character loom large in many of the panels.

The only things that I found a little flat in the story were Miles and Silk. Knowing Miles’ reverence for Peter, it’s hard for me to think that he would go after Goblin full on after being warned off by Peter. Same thing with Silk. The moment took me out of the issue for a moment while I thought of why they didn’t listen. Other than that, the issue is solid and the ending is amazing.
