The Rundown: Spider-Man hits the streets with a new look and a renewed sense of purpose, but Kingpin has plans for the wall crawler.

Kingpin meets with the biggest crime bosses in the city to discuss how prosperous they’ve been under his leadership, but there is still dissention among the ranks as rival organizations jockey for control. After bringing them under control, he tells them what the price is going to be for their continued connection to the Mayor’s office and it’s not a what, but a who. With his interest in the Lifeline Tablet at the front of his mind, Kingpin sends his partners out to find the one person who can find the missing pieces and that person happens to have a personal connection to Spider-Man.

Even though Spider-Man has found a renewed fervor for his job, Peter Parker still needs to pay the rent and that means taking a job he knows he’s going to hate. While the job might be questionable, the new spider suit it offers is an interesting perk. A perk he discovers when three of his foes go for a late night withdrawal from the bank. As he takes them down, he discovers that they were just the distraction from a bigger, more personal operation.

The Story: I loved the tone and pace of this issue. Spencer does a great job of keeping the story lively, concentrating on the characters and making a plot that is fun and entertaining. The social media aspects of the story and how they relate to Spider-Man’s new image are intriguing and have a deeper meaning beyond the comedic nature of them. A great issue that is setting up an entertaining arc for the character.

The Art: Patrick Gleason shines with the art in this issue. There are impressive visual moments throughout and the action is as compelling as the character moments.
