The Rundown: Father and son unite to stop an interdimensional threat, but a familiar face is pulling the strings.

An interdimensional breach in space will bring Superman and Jonathan together to fight the creatures that emerge from it. As they battle to stop the threat, Jonathan marvels at his father, but also has a secret. One that he came into knowledge of in his time in the future. At the same time, Amanda Waller looks at the battle and gets some information that she’s been looking for.

In the aftermath, Lois notices something is different about her son. Something he’s hiding. As another breach opens and Superman goes to stop it, Jonathan sees that there is something unique about this breach. Something that will force him to reveal the secret he’s been keeping from his father for his own good.

In another story, Bibbo and Jimmy Olsen hit the town and Bibbo discovers something unusual about his date and her friend.

The Story: Phillip Kennedy Johnson crafts an interesting mystery in this first issue. Unfortunately, interesting is about as far as it goes. The narration is alright, but the plot is too predictable and the dialogue felt stiff. To be fair, it’s not all the fault of the writing. The characters have been pushed into narrative corners by previous arcs and the reader isn’t given much in the way of finding a reason to care about this one beyond its implications.

The Art: Hester’s art is good but feels limited in its scope. Sami Basri’s art is beautifully detailed and filled with some fun visual moments.
