Kara faces Splyce again and this time without her powers. The villain mocks the Kryptonian as Kara tries to goad her into firing a solar ray at her to replenish her powers. Failing that, the battle gets more intense as one of the escapees doesn’t make it. The death of the child sends Kara into a rage that she might not come down from.

At the same time, Z’ndr and Krypto have been captured and we finally learn why the scientist threw his lot in with Supergirl in the first place. Even though he was sent to spy on her, he finds himself sympathetic to her cause and will defy his own mother to do what he thinks is right. A move that might cost him more than he realizes.

Hokum has plans of his own and when the Omega Men manage to escape with the prisoners and their captured teammates, he puts his plan into action. When Kara discovers what Hokum’s plans are, it might be too late for all of them.

The pacing and action in this issue are great. There is a lot to take in, but every reveal adds something interesting to the overall plot and opens up lines of story that are worth exploring. Andreyko makes it easy for the reader to become engaged in both Kara’s story as well as Z’ndr and the Omega Men. There’s some well written dialogue in this issue as well. All of the characters from Kara to Hokum have entertaining arcs. It was an amazing moment to witness seeing Kara almost make the ultimate decision after witnessing a tragedy. It says a lot about the character and her continued journey.

Eduardo Pansica’s art is glorious. Not only are there great details in both the characters and the backgrounds, but the details in the facial expressions are amazing.
