The Rundown: As more truths are revealed, more mysteries spring up in the town of Stillwater.

Daniel West finds himself sitting across from the judge who will determine his fate. In a town where no one dies, judgment looks different and Daniel will find more question than answers while the judge decides his fate. At the same time, the kid who fell from the roof spies on the proceedings while Daniel’s mother Laura faces questions about her decision.

After intense questioning from Ted, which leaves him with a bullet in the brain, Daniel is returned to his cell. When Tanya returns to collect him, she tells the outsider that the judge has made a decision in his case. A decision that will bring him before the entire town and will reunite him with his mother again before sentence is passed on them both.

The Story: There isn’t a lot happening in this issue, but Zdarsky does a great job of building both this world and the characters within it. Some of the more important conflicts are revealed and fleshed out while making the mysteries deeper and more engaging. I want to know the secret of the town, but also want to see how Daniel navigates it, its people, their secrets and his past. For those reasons, I am on board for the next issue.

The Art: Ramon K Perez does some excellent work with the imagery in this issue. The two conflicting stories of mother and son are framed beautifully and I love the stylistic choices in how the characters look.
