The Rundown: There is something strange about the town of Stillwater and two men will find out the truth, but not without a cost.

Daniel is a Designer who is disaffected by his life and career. After losing his job and having a disastrous night out with a friend, Daniel is visited by a man with a letter from a distant relative encouraging him to come to the town of Stillwater to receive an inheritance.

Needing both the money and a change of scenery, Daniel and a friend head to the secluded town and quickly discover that it is full of secrets. Specifically, that no one in the town can die. A fact that just might cost Daniel his life.

The Story: Chip Zdarsky creates an interesting world with an even more interesting premise. Daniel is an interesting character if not particularly engaging. I didn’t really get much sense of his personality because it seems like things just happen to him rather than him having any agency, but the story allows for the character to evolve and I look forward to seeing it. The rest of the story is well told and engaging with a vibe reminiscent of shows like The X-Files. It will be interesting to see how a town full of people who can’t die deals with day to day life and more importantly, why was Daniel called to the town in the first place.

The Art: Ramon Perez does some great work with the art in this issue. The characters are expressive and detailed. The backgrounds are great and there are some great visual transitions throughout the issue.
