The Rundown: In the aftermath of an attack on his home and family, Virgil seeks help to fight back.

As more young people discover that they have strange and unusual powers, Virgil finds himself facing off against Hotstreak. After the villain exhausts his power, Virgil must decide between taking him down for good or helping stop the fire at his parent’s house. After saving his family home, the family sits down to discuss what is both happening to Virgil and what to do about.

With stress both at home and at school, Virgil decides to skip class for the day to get some perspective. After an intense interaction with an old friend, Virgil decides to contact someone who might be able to help. Someone who leads him to a location just might have materials that he needs to the next phase of his superhero life. At the same time Darius learns of the growing threat.

The Story: This new issue has a great blend of both action and drama. Giving Virgil the additional stress of dealing with both his powers and his parents knowing his secret is a great narrative choice. The story is highly engaging and the plot is interesting. Ayala is building an interesting world for these characters and the end of of the issue made me intrigued to see what happens next.

The Art: Chriscross and Draper-Ivey delivers some exciting and beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. There’s some great action at the beginning of the issue and the style is perfect for the type of story, the characters and the world that’s being created.
