As the lead up to the next chapter in the Star Wars saga begins, the fate of Captain Phasma at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is revealed in this comic. After escaping the level six trash compactor, Phasma is recalling her journey in a personal log. A log that, naturally, downplays the role she played in lowering the defenses surrounding Starkiller Base that allowed Resistance fighters to attack. As the base continues to be bombarded by fighters, Phasma comes to the realization that she needs to tie up some loose ends, specifically in the computer logs of the base.

As she attempts to make her way out of the base, she decides that she needs more to her Captain-Phasma-Comic-3-06142017story and finds a way to both take care of another problem as well as clear her own name, she goes into pursuit of the only other person who accessed the security logs for the base. After stumbling upon Kylo Ren’s fight with Rey in the woods, the destruction of the base slows her pursuit and her quarry escapes. She requisitions a pilot in a tie fighter to go after the “traitor”.

As a means of tying up loose ends from The Force Awakens, this first issue works. There is a satisfying symmetry to Phasma’s actions and her dogged determination to protect herself. It will be interesting to see how far she is willing to go to protect her secrets and who she is willing to sacrifice to do it. Thompson has created a decent set up to a thriller in this issue and the art from Checchetto is great. There are some stunning visuals in this issue and the details and colors make the panels pop as your eye moves. It will be interesting to see where they go next.
