The Rebels mission on Mon Cala is about to get really complicated, really fast and their shape-shifting “Moff” along with Threepio might be the cause. At the end of the performance they are witnessing, Threepio decides to give the Clawdite thespian and idea to allow the moment to last longer and it requires both he and Threepio to put on a performance in front of the entire Moncaladrome. A prospect Artoo finds extremely ill advised. Nevertheless, they decide to do it anyway.

At the same time, Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie find themselves at the bed side of the Mon Cala leader they hoped to rescue. Fortunately for them, he is not as incapacitated as he seems and has an conversation with Leia about the current state of the rebellion on his world. As Luke and Han go looking for an interrogator droid to record a message from the injured leader, the real Moff takes the opportunity to alert the guards. Like everything else with this mission, things go from bad to worse.

The story starts to get more intense at this point and I like how it starts to pick up thematically. There is someone helping Threepio and the Clawdite in their hour of need and it showcases that there is a concerted, concentrated rebel effort on the planet. One that is putting itself to use helping the rebel plan. It also helps that the Clawdite is more clever than he lets on as he finds a way to escape the complex with Artoo and Threepio in tow.

Luke and company escape from the prison planet with information that might change the minds of the leadership of Mon Cala if they aren’t betrayed first.

The political intrigue in this issue is handled well and right up until the end of the issue, I didn’t know what was going to happen next and that level of surprise intrigued me. While the plotting was a little slow at times, it did have some really good moments that made it a story worth reading, but it looks like the next issue is where all the really good stuff is about to take place.
