With the massive success Disney and Sony had bringing a new Spider-Man story to life as well as connecting him to the MCU proper, it was a no-brainer that a sequel would be in the works.

According to an exclusive story from The Hollywood Reporter, writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers will be returning to write the sequel to the hit film Spider-Man: Homecoming.

With the film bringing Marvel’s flagship character back into the fold, Spider-Man: Homecoming not only won rave reviews from critics and fans, but brought in over $319 million domestically and $737 Million worldwide at the box office. Tom Holland is set to return for the sequel after reprising the role for the two upcoming Avengers films and Sony is in talks with Homecoming director Jon Watts to return to direct the sequel.

The duo previously worked on The Lego Batman Movie, Sony’s upcoming Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp now filming.

The Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is set for release July 5, 2019.
