Synopsis: Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.

The classic Spider-Man motto “With great power comes great responsibility” comes to life throughout this new adventure. Peter just wants to spend his summer on a school trip to Europe with his friends, but the responsibility of being Spider-Man constantly gets in the way.

When creatures begin to attack all over the world using the elements, Peter finds his vacation interrupted by Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) who needs the wall crawlers help to defeat them. Fury partners Spider-Man with a refugee from another dimension named Quentin Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal) who has experience fighting the creatures on his world and has a plan to stop them before they destroy ours. Unfortunately for Peter, Beck has a secret that is almost as dangerous.

What is Peter’s responsibility to the world in the wake of Tony Stark’s sacrifice? After being made an Avenger in Infinity War, Peter has to deal with the responsibility of being a hero even as he continues to deal with the reality of being a sixteen year old kid. Tom Holland does an excellent job as Peter. He continues to exemplify a character constantly wanting to do the right thing while still doubting himself. Holland’s performance makes the audience feel for him. You want him to succeed as both Spider-Man and Peter Parker in equal measure even though you know Peter’s desires have to take a backseat to Spider-Man’s mission.

The script is filled with great character moments as Peter has to choose his actions from moment to moment and deal with the consequences of those actions from both a personal and professional standpoint. As responsibility after responsibility is heaped on him, the audience is forced to ask if this is too much too soon for the character. A theme that is explored with a final gift left to Peter by Tony Stark himself. There’s great humor in the film as well with the supporting cast including Zendaya, Jacob Batalon and others providing welcome laughs throughout.

The action and special effects are exceptional. Jon Watts really knows how to frame both the characters and the action and utilizes the environments really well. All of the action is condensed in scale which works for the plot and they grow to an amazing final battle in London that showcases the artistry of Spider-Man in action.

Spider-Man: Far From Home does an amazing job of continuing Peter Parker’s story in a post Endgame world and sets up some great plot points and character moments for the hero going forward.

Post Credits Scenes: Two. One that changes Spider-Man and Peter Parker’s world in the MCU and the other is a comedic nod to the future and the Marvel Cinematic Universes next phase.
