The Rundown: A police inspector shows a rookie the ropes as Speed races to escape the cops.

Inspector Rokugo brings a new detective with him to check out Palm City and tell him what he sees. As they survey the city, Speed Racer is in the middle of an illegal street race with his younger brother Spritle watching from the sidelines and streaming it to the world. As things get dangerous for the young racer and the police begin to close in, Speed Racer must put the Mach 5 through its paces in order to make it home alive and free.
In a second story, Speed is tearing through the streets oblivious of the fact that he is being targeted. As the assassins move closer, they find themselves confronted by Racer X who has a plan to bring them down and make sure Speed Racer is none the wiser.
The Story: Pepose crafts a fun, thrilling adventure in this issue and it is everything I want from a Speed Racer story. I like the tension throughout the story and how Speed is in an interesting place at the beginning of this series. It gives the character the ability to grow and evolve in new ways. I really enjoyed the Racer X story from Russell. It had the perfect blend of spy story and intense action. Both parts of this story have gotten my attention and made me intrigued to see what happens in this series.
The Art: Tinto delivers some beautifully sleek and stylish art throughout the issue. Batista delivers great art that has an anime style feel to it.
