Al is taken to a room where one of his oldest enemies is strung up and on display. He’s then attacked and strung up himself, subjected to torture all in search of answers. Unfortunately for the man holding him, Al has a message he might not want to hear. One that prompts him to increase the torture while he deals with his own fear.

On the outside, forces allied against Spawn are worried about a Spawn that is not playing by the same rules Heaven and Hell have set up and they know how dangerous that makes him. It’s a cool moment punctuated by great use of shadow and camera angles by Alexander. While the facility works on dealing with the press and their attempts to enter, the man in charge gets a visit he wasn’t expecting. One that changes everything. It’s a pretty brutal scene and one that is true to the nature of the characters and the world they inhabit.

There is a great story in this issue and the visuals are both brutal and beautiful, especially the use of color and shadow. There is a great kinetic energy to many of the panels and the ending promises that the brutality, action and intrigue are going to continue in the next issue.
