The Rundown: Tensions are high in the small town and a stranger in town walking around with the only survivor of a vicious attack is making people nervous.

Tommy Mahoney is the brother of one of the missing children and life in his home is getting worse as his mother loses hope that her little girl will be found alive. When he arrives at work, he sees a mysterious woman and James, the only survivor of an attack that killed three kids.

When Erica and James take a booth in the corner to compare notes about the attack and the missing children, Tommy and one of the waitresses start asking questions. When the subject of Tommy’s missing sister comes up, he lashes out at Erica and James, convinced she has something to do with the girl’s disappearance. As they leave the restaurant and split up, Erica’s presence in the town brings her more unwanted attention.

The Story: James Tynion IV delivers a great story with this issue. The story has a dark tone that is filled with tension and mystery. The dialogue is great and Erica is a great character that I want to know more about. The mystery of who she is, what she does and who she reports to are ones that draw in the reader and make the character stand out. The small town politics and tensions come across well and you can feel the tension in the air as the story unfolds.

The Art: Dell’edera strikes the perfect tone with the art. From the characters to the panel details, there is a dark, film noir quality to the art that helps serve the story.
