The Rundown: Shang-Chi will discover a link to his past in an unexpected place.

Shang-Chi’s dreams are plagued by a vision of his sister sitting on the throne of their father. The next morning, he tells his dream to Master Ling who proposes that the missing member of their house might be what is plaguing him. That he needs to find his missing sister. When Ling goes into his memories, he discovers that the dreams are visions of the Negative Zone. A location that will prompt a call to Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four. Unfortunately, the team is off world and unable to help Shang-Chi investigate.

After being refused help by Reed, Shang-Chi and his siblings decide that they need to find a way into Reed’s lab to gain access to the Negative Zone. Once inside, Shang and company find themselves on the doorstep of the original House of the Deadly Hand. What they find inside is something none of them expected and when they return, they are confronted by Reed and his team. In the aftermath, Shang-Chi’s new guest will connect with someone unexpected and Reed reaches out to a friend to discuss Shang-Chi’s new direction.

The Story: Gene Luen Yang continues to craft an interesting and unpredictable world for Shang-Chi to inhabit. His clashes with his allies make the story entertaining as the character continues to burn bridges in his attempt to do good with his father’s organization. It’s an intriguing character study that still finds a great balance of action and humor. I am impressed with the direction of this arc and cannot wait to see what happens next as the broadening of Shang-Chi’s family might not be a good thing.

The Art: Dike Ruan delivers some blistering and beautiful action throughout this issue. The art is brilliantly detailed and eye catching on every page.
