Netflix’s adaptation of the IDW Entertainment comic book series Locke & Key has cast former Scandal star Darby Stanchfield as the family matriarch Nina Locke.

Based on the comic book series by writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez, Locke & Key tells the story of the Locke siblings Kinsey, Tyler and Bode. After the gruesome death of the children’s father, Nina Locke moves her children to their ancestral home in Massachusetts called Key House. The children discover that the home has a series of magical keys that unlock doors to other dimensions along with powers and abilities.

Unbeknownst to the Locke family, a demon residing in the house wants the keys as well and will stop at nothing to get them.

Former artist and House renovator Nina Locke (Stanchfield) struggles in her role as a single mother as she tries to give her children a fresh start as well as investigate the murder of her husband.

Stanchfield played Abby Whelan for seven seasons on the ABC series Scandal. Her recent film credits include the upcoming Stargirl for Disney Plus.

The Netflix series was created by Joe Hill and developed by Carlton Cuse,  Aaron Eli Coleite and Meredith Averill. Hill penned the first episode of the series with Cuse and Averill serving as showrunners.
