In a move that comes as a surprise for many CW Arrowverse fans, actress Ruby Rose has announced that she will not return as Kate Kane for the next season of Batwoman.
The news was originally reported in Variety. The series, in which Rose plays the main character Kate Kane aka Batwoman, is set to return for a second season on the CW network. Rose released a statement thanking the production team, cast and crew of the freshman series.
“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” said Rose. “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success – I am truly grateful.”
There is currently no official statement as to why the actress is leaving the series as the announcement comes after the recent airing of the season 1 finale. Batwoman was renewed for a second season in January along with the rest of the DC Comics CW lineup. There is no news on who will replace Rose in the role or when that news will be announced.
