The Rundown: The crew of the Cortes find themselves face to face with an unknown enemy.

Unknown creatures wearing spacesuits have already taken one of their own and the Cortes crew doesn’t know if they are next. While the creatures stand before them unmoving, the crew has moments to determine what threat they pose. Not knowing how to proceed, they decide to forgo a firefight when the creatures make no move to stop them. Their relief is short lived when their trip back to the ship leads them to being surrounded by more of the creatures.

At the same time, one of the crew members working to fix some broken systems finds himself face to face with an unspeakable horror and the remaining members of the crew will find themselves facing creatures who could be friend or foe.

The Story: Rogue Planet has all the elements of classic science fiction horror stories like Alien and The Thing. It works as a horror thriller by introducing an unknown and unpredictable threat. The story is great and builds on some palpable tension. The characters are not that compelling, but the situation they in is. The conflict at the end of the issue makes me curious about what happens next.

The Art: Andy Macdonald delivers some impressive visuals in this issue. The art plays will with the horror elements of the story and the visuals have a visceral quality that makes it visually compelling.
