I am a huge fan of the first two Hellboy films directed by Guillermo Del Toro and starring Ron Perlman. When Del Toro wanted to gauge fan reaction to the thought of bringing the character back for a third film, I was on board and vocal in my support on social media. As the project fell apart, I was disillusioned about the prospects of ever seeing the character on-screen again, but this evening there is news that a new Hellboy movie is in the works.

According to comicbook.com and confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola announced that a reboot of the franchise was moving forward without Del Toro or Perlman’s involvement. The writer and creator took to Facebook to confirm that the new film, with the working title Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, would be a new film directed by The Descent and Game of Thrones director Neil Marshall and starring Stranger Things actor David Harbour in the lead role. The writer also confirmed that the rebooted film will be rated R.
