This weekend Scott Bakula, star of the hit 80’s series Quantum Leap was doing a panel discussion with the series creator Donald Bellisario when the creator let something slip about a big screen version of the series.

At LA Comic Con, Bellisario told the gathered crowd of fans during the panel discussion that he has finished a Quantum Leap screenplay to be produced for the big screen. “I just finished writing a Quantum Leap feature,” Bellisario announced. “I don’t know what’s going to happen with it, but I did write it.”

Bellisario is one of the most prolific producers in Hollywood with an impressive list of hit shows that he either created or co-created including Magnum P.I., Airwolf, JAG and NCIS. While not giving away any plot details, he did seem to imply that the film would be a continuation of the series and not a straight reboot. “I just start writing and I let them take me wherever it’s going to take me. I’m entertained the same way the audience is. So I just put Scott and Dean [Stockwell] in my head, kind of rebooted them, and went from there.” he said.

24 years later, there are still fans who found the end of the original series to be troubling and it might be interesting to see if a new Quantum Leap addresses that and what new adventures it takes Sam on.
