The Rundown: Joker’s latest protégé has been left out in the cold, but she isn’t as defenseless and one might think.

In the aftermath of the Joker War, Punchline is at a hearing to determine whether she is fit to stand trial for her crimes. When Leslie Tompkins testifies that she is, her trial prepares to move forward, but the villain discovers that she still has allies loyal to Joker’s vision.

As Punchline waits and plans her next step, Bluebird and her brother find themselves at odds when it comes to the woman’s fate with Cullen taking Punchline’s side after listening to her podcast series about tracking the Joker and trying to learn more about his message. As the date of Punchline’s trial approaches, opposing forces gather to see what will happen to her and as she arrives for court, another war seems poised to grip the city. One that will be a lot more personal.

The Story: James Tynion IV and Sam Johns make Punchline a more interesting character in this issue. The story does an excellent job of using technology, especially social media and podcasting to showcase how those things influence people. The contrast to how Punchline was influenced by Joker is well done in how both sides of the story reflect society today. The conflict in Bluebird’s home is well measured in its drama and everything in the story builds to a climax that makes me interested in what comes next for the character.

The Art: As well done as the story is, the art from Mirka Andolfo is exactly what was needed to draw me in as a reader. Andolfo’s style is amazing and the details as well as facial expressions and attention to character are visually engaging. This was a great looking issue from start to finish.
