Charles Xavier finds himself in the company of a young lady and their discussion turns to his dream of a better world. When she reveals that she know who he is, she tells him to read her mind. In doing so, Charles discovers something he did not expect.

Back in the present, Mystique is mostly successful in her mission to retrieve information both Magneto and Charles feel are vital for the safety and security of Krakoa. In the far future, the war between humans and mutants continues to rage as the final remnants of the X-Men fight for survival against the human/machine forces led by Nimrod. Further still, the end of the conflict leads to a new and unknown future.

The Story: Jonathan Hickman already blew me away with House of X and Powers of X takes what he’s established and moves the story in new and different directions. There are multiple mysteries and storylines in this first issue and each one paints a bigger, more interesting picture for the reader. Each time period holds something intriguing for the next part of the story and I can’t wait to see how this story unfolds over time as well as how the characters evolve with it.

The Art: R.B. Silva’s art is fantastic. There are some great visual moments throughout and a beautiful fluidity to the backgrounds that draws the reader’s eye.
