Deron GenerallyIn another move that shows that there is going to be a different tone to future DC Comics films, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Warner Brothers is currently developing a film based on the comedic superhero Plastic Man.
In their exclusive piece, THR revealed that Warner Brothers has hired screenwriter Amanda Idoko to pen the script for the film. Idoko is an up and coming screenwriter who worked on the short-lived sitcom The Mayor and has written the screenplay for the Allison Janey/ Laura Dern film Breaking News in Yuba County.
Plastic Man, whose real name is Patrick “Eel” O’Brien was created by Jack Cole in 1941 for Quality Comics. When the company folded, DC purchased the character in 1956. Eel was a small time criminal who ran with a gang. After being shot during a heist, he is accidentally doused with chemicals and left for dead. When he awakens, he finds that his entire body is malleable and he is able to bend and shape it into any form he wants. Eventually, he decides to become a hero, even being a member of the Justice League for a time.
THR’s sources say that the studio is looking to keep the light-hearted tone of the character for the upcoming film, but no director has been attached. Most recently, Plastic Man has played a major part in the DC Comics event series Dark Knights Metal from Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, been a part of The Terrifics from Jeff Lemire and Evan Shaner and had a well-received mini-series of his own from Gail Simone and Adriana Melo.
