Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #305

Marvel Comics

Written by Chip Zdarsky

Art by Adam Kubert

Colors by Jason Keith and Andrew Crossley

Letters by Travis Lanham

Peter Parker confronts his assistant in his office early in the morning. He knows that she is a mole for Norman Osborn and he’s upset that he let her get away knowing that he’s putting Gwen’s life in danger. The question is; What is he going to do about it?

Spider-Man and the Resistance are on the run after freeing the one person who has the power to get them back home. Coincidentally, he’s also the one person who started this mess; Doctor Doom. As he works on getting the group home, Osborn and his forces move in including Kraven, Octopus and more. As they prepare to assault the base, they are slowed by an attack by Gwen Stacy. I have to give it to Zdarsky, he has made Gwen Stacy into a well done character in this story. I love her resilience and purchase in this story. What follows is even better when someone no one expects swoops in to save her and take on Osborn once and for all.

There’s a tragic moment that happens with the heroes that I won’t spoil, but it is very familiar in context to the character. You almost forget about the alien invasion story that is the catalyst for this entire adventure and that’s the only thing that I could look to as a flaw. There is so much that is great in this issue from the art to the dialogue and it ends on notes that are hopeful, which I enjoyed as well. Kubert’s art is dynamic and every panel is great to look at and study. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
