The Rundown: Politics goes for the jugular in a world where legislation is handled in the ring and one politician wants to make it a literal fight to the death.

In Washington DC, Senator Jack Hammer takes on Senator Sweet Smell Shaw for fate of a piece of legislation that will change how government continues to work in a world where bills are decided through an epic blood sport style fight. When Hammer wins the fight instead of throwing it, he starts a chain of events that will not only perpetuate the violence, but end in murder.

A Federal agent decides that the best way she can fight corruption is to team up with Hammer, but the price on his head is going to make that difficult as she begins her investigation. At the same time, the man behind the plot decides that going after the reporters investigating him will send a message to everyone who opposes him.

The Story: A brutal, bloody and brilliant debut, Chuck Brown creates an interesting and thoroughly entertaining new world with this first issue. The first issue of On The Stump is beautifully brutal and wickedly smart. It’s full of interesting ideas and the story is engaging with its mixture of WWE style fighter personas and its ideas about politics and its affect on the masses. A great debut with an intriguing mystery that I can’t wait to see explored.

The Art: Prenzy does some brilliant work with the art in this issue. The characters and the brutality of the action leap off the page and all of the detailed backgrounds are a feast for the eyes.
