After the success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, fans of the universe created by George Lucas scrambled to speculate on which standalone movie would be coming next. Even with the issues that previously plagued the standalone Han Solo movie currently filming, there was one film that fans were continuing to talk about. Today comes confirmation that should delight them.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm is in early development on a standalone film about exiled Jedi Master Obi Wan Kenobi. Although the Jedi’s career has been chronicled on series like Star Wars The Clone Wars and most recently Star Wars Rebels, there are still questions fans have about Kenobi and his time in exile, including how he watched over a young Luke Skywalker. In previous incarnations, Kenobi is seen as a skilled Jedi knight and warrior. It will be interesting to see how they portray him on the big screen in a standalone feature.

Sir Alec Guinness originated the role in the original trilogy and Ewan McGregor played the younger version of the character in the prequel films. Although McGregor has expressed interest in returning to the role, Lucasfilm insists that since there is no script yet, no actor has been attached.

'Trash' Film premiere, 9th Rome Film Festival, Rome, Italy - 18 Oct 2014

As far as helming the film, Lucasfilm is in talks with director Stephen Daldry to bring this adventure to life. Daldry is the three-time Oscar nominated director of the films Billy Elliot, The Hours and The Reader. He is also the director and producer of the Netflix hit drama The Crown.

Star Wars Rouge One didn’t disappoint as a spin off Star Wars movie. Great expectations from this one now. Hope 2020 comes soon.
